anthropology?

this is one of the most ingenious ridicolus lyrics i ever heard:

Grillz - Nelly
(feat. Paul Wall, Ali, Gipp)

ROBB the jewelry store and tell em make me a grill.

Had a whole top diamond and da bottom rose gold

[J.D.]
Yo we bout to start a epidemic wit dis one
Ya'll know what dis is...So So Def

[Nelly]
Got 30 down at the bottom, 30 mo at the top
All invisible set with little ice cube blocks
If I could call it a drink, call it a smile on da rocks
If I could call out a price, lets say I call out a lot
I got like platinum and white gold, traditional gold
I'm changin girllz errday, like Jay change clothes,
I might be grilled out nicely (oh) In my white tee (oh),
on South Beach (oh) in my wife beat.
V V and studded you can tell when they cut it
ya see my grandmama hate it, but my lil mama love it
cuz when I...

[Woman]
When open up ya mouth, ya grill gleamin (say what)
eyes stay low from da cheifin'

[Nelly]
I got a grill they call penny candy you know
what that means, it look like Now n Laters, gum drops, jelly beans
I wouldn't leave it for nothin only a crazy man would
so if you catch me in ya city, somewhere out in ya hood just say

[Chorus]
Smile fo me daddy
(What you lookin at)
Let me see ya grill
(Let cha see my what)
Ya, ya grill ya, ya, ya grill
(Rob da jewelry store and tell em make me a grill)
Smile for me daddy
(What you lookin at)
I want to see your grill
(You wanna see my what)
Ya, ya grill ya, ya, ya grill
(Got the whole top diamond and da bottom rows gold)

[Paul Wall]
What it do baby
Its da ice man paul wall
I got my mouth lookin somethin like a disco ball
I got da diamonds and da ice all hand set
I might cause a cold front if i take a deep breath
My teeth gleaming like im chewin on aluminum foil
Smilein showin off my diamonds sippin on some pinot noir I put my money where my mouth is and bought a grill
20 karots 30 stacks let em know im so fo real
My motivation is from 30 pointers V VS the furniture my mouth
piece simply symbolize success
I got da wrist wear and neck wear dats captivatin
But its my smile dats got these on-lookers spectatin
My mouth piece simply certified a total package
Open up my mouth and you see mo karots than a salad
My teeth are mind blowin givin everybody chillz
Call me George foreman cuz im sellin everybody grillz

[Chorus]
Smile fo me daddy
(What you lookin at)
Let me see ya grill
(Let cha see my what)
Ya, ya grill ya, ya, ya grill
(Rob da jewelry store and tell em make me a grill)
Smile fo me daddy
(What you lookin at)
I want to see your grill
(You wanna see my what)
Ya, ya grill ya, ya, ya grill
(Had a whole top diamonds and da bottom rose gold)

[Gipp]
Gipp got dem yellows, got dem purples, got dem reds
Lights gon hit ya and make you woozie in ya head
You can catch me in my 2 short drop
Mouth got colors like a fruit loop box

[Ali]
Dis what it do when da lou
Ice grill country grammar
Where da hustlas move bricks
and da gangsta's bang hamma's
Where i got em you can spot them
On da top in da bottom
Gotta bill in my mouth like im Hillary Rodham

[Gipp]
I ain't dissin no body but lets bring it to da lite
Gipp was da first wit my mouth bright white
Yeah deez hos can't focus cuz they eyesight blurry
Tippin on some 4's you can see my mouth jewelry

[Ali]
I got fo different sets its a fabolous thang
1 white, 1 yellow, like fabolous chain
and da otha set is same got my name in da mold

(Had a whole top diamond and da bottom rose gold)

[Chorus]

[Woman]
Boy how you get your grill that way and
How much did you pay
Every time i see you
Tha first thing im gon say hey.....

love it

i truly am fascinated with most of the rasta reggae, reggae and dancehall songs i listen to . some of the challenges associated with this particular interest is the absence of these lyrics on the internet and the sung jamaican sounds being very loosely connected to the english language.

best sounds of 2005

my friend gene and i were talking about the best big reggae albums of 2005 .. we narrowed it down to 3 and here are the candidates... mind you, the candidates are of a very mainstream choice, cuz one of the criteria for this definition of best was the impact of the album on the reggae scene. :

i wayne - lava ground
  • a very smooth album overall with i wayne's velvet voice. his hit can't satisfy her competes with jr gong's welcome to jamrock as the best single out . tunes like lava girl and living in love are also food for the soul.
sean paul - trinity
  • i havent actually listened to the whole album but the songs that play on the radios are all solid. the plus of the album is that it shows seandapal is moving toward the concious vibe.
damian jr gong marley -welcome to jamrock
  • every song off this album is top of the line. he has it all, slow, dancehall, roots, hip hop, r&b, reggae. his rapping style is full of riddim and wisdom. also, his additive influence on the worldwide reggae scene is breathtaking. he proves he is the first international reggae superstar bob marley's son.

istanbul riddim

my friend gene from work just told me that there is a new riddim in the reggae scene titled "istanbul riddim" and continued that he thought the only connection between reggae and istanbul was me .. well actually i was very surprised to hear the news coming at me.
and then even stranger was when i was in the car listening to the usual session on WERS 88.9 Boston style 4-8pm reggae time , i was enjoying a song very much and then the diskjockey announced that the song we had just listened was the new hot IStanbul riddIM . fire burn!

now the biggest tune of the year is playing on the caribbean radio Choice FM 102.9 . shaggy feat olivia - wild tonight . i recommend it all the original shaggy lovas out de .. missa lova lova .

too many cars

http://www.radikal.com.tr/haber.php?haberno=175150

and this one is about the traffic problem in istanbul.
a good move to reduce traffic in the city is to raise the toll for the intercontinental bridges and the parkingn fees, argues the columnist. however, a man of power suggested to x the toll .. i don't think that plan is going to actualize though.

some politricks

http://www.milliyet.com/2006/01/03/yazar/dundar.html

another good article by one of turkey's leading journalists: Can Dundar. it is about the attempt of a religious mayor to change the face of a prostitution neighborhood with a "revitalization plan." The twist is that the mayor is going to go to referandum and ask the question "do you want a brothel in your neighborbood?" he knows it well that the majority answer will be NO. Dundar is suggesting a referandum on "serbest ask/free love" instead. by the way, prostitution is legal in the country in case you didnt get it til this point.

why does it have to be this way ?

http://www.milliyet.com.tr/2006/01/07/yazar/dundar.html

this article is about an institution that was shut down by the government because it was not making a profit. this institution happens to be a "chicken diseases research center" in a country where the first case of human death by avian flu was seen outside of asia -- just last week.
